The Yamaha EMX powered mixers are one of the most popular items in our PA department. There are two basic styles of powered mixer - the "Top Box" (these are the ones that have the front mounted mixer section & look like they're in a box) & the "Flat Bed" style (these are the ones that look like traditional mixers). Right through the EMX range we have tested the Yamaha options against the various "cheaper" options on the market. Whilst the cheaper options will often have a very similar set of knobs & buttons, & have very similar looking specifications, we can tell you now that the Yamaha's sound louder, clearer & have a much better reliability record! The Yamaha EMX5014SC comes as a flat bed style mixer - these are more expensive to make than the top box style mixer, but they're generally easier to use because the layout is clearer & you have faders instead of knobs for the volume controls. The EMX5014SC has up to 14 inputs (max 8 mics), and delivers 1000 watts (500w per side in stereo). You get 6 channels with the onboard compression control, plus a graphic EQ & built in Yamaha SPX effects. This is an ideal powered mixer for a full band who want to mic up drums & play small/medium gigs. We recommend using the EMX5014SC with either the Yamaha AX15's (on their own) or, for even better bass end, with the AX12's & AX15W's as a complete system.
Here's what Yamaha say about the EMX5014SC
